Sankashti Chathurthi Vrat is considered the ultimate vrat for devotees of Lord Ganesha. It is observed on the 4th day of the Krishna Paksha (4th day after each Poornima), this vrat is believed to remove all obstacles and absolve your sins. It is also known as Sankat Hara Chathurthi or Sankasthahara Chathurthi.

We observe this fast is believed to reduce problems, as Ganesha is the remover of all obstacles and the supreme lord of intelligence. Before moonlight, the Ganapati Atharvasheersha is recited to invoke the blessings of Lord Ganesha.

The devotees must wake up early in the morning and take bath and then light a Diya offer flowers, sweets, and durva grass to Ganesh; then do chanting of mantra to get his blessings so he will remove all the obstacles. Ganapati loves modak so we should give modak as Prashad to others.

The observer of this fast can consume fruits, vegetables, and the roots of plants. The staple diet on this day comprises peanuts, potatoes, and sabudana khichdi. The fast is broken after worshipping Lord Ganesha and seeing the moon in the evening. Then giving “Arg” milk water to the moon.

This is vital, especially for the beginning and end of fasting time. It should be noted that the deciding factor for fasting on Sankashti Chathurthi is moonrise timing. The fasting for Sankashti Chathurthi can take off a day prior to the Chathurthi Thithi. In other words, it is on Tritya Thithi.
