Bloodstains on a sofa — Ultimate nightmare
Staying in a joint family is tough and if you are a female then it becomes tougher.
Since a young age, there were many thoughts that I used to fear. The one thing which always made me anxious was leaving bloodstains on a sofa.
And that day my friend, I still can’t erase it from my memory.
The whole thing happened exactly 2 years ago when the wedding season was going on.
We live in Mumbai and it was my elder sister’s marriage. Our house was full of guests.
Relatives from all over India had come to our house and even my NRI bua and their kids with an accent.
I work in an IT company and usually getting holidays was not that easy. Even it was my sister’s wedding, I only got 3 days’ holiday.
Usually, I reach home by 8 PM, but that day being the last day I got more work and I reached home around 10 PM.
I was too tired already and the time I reach home I came to know that today my bua and her kids were going to sleep in my room.
And not even kidding, when somebody steals your room that is the worst feeling ever.
I was really angry, but I didn’t have an option except sleeping with my two irritating younger sisters or sleeping in the hall on a sofa.
Going back to that night.
I got fresh, had dinner and then sat with my laptop on a sofa and started working.
I was supposed to submit a project the next morning.
After listening to 50 songs, having 3 coffees and working continuously for 2 hours I finally finished my work.
It was around 3:30 when I packed everything and tried sleeping.
After watching an episode of How I met your Mother, I slept around 4 PM.
That night still haunts me.
The time I opened my eyes, I saw around 15–20 people in the hall. A ceremony was going on.
Then I realized my pants were a bit wet.
I got up in complete fear making sure nobody notices me.
I covered the whole sofa with a blanket and sat on the same spot.
In an Indian family, periods were still considered as a taboo.
It created a problem as I had to made sure that not even one person can see this.
Many people came and soon our house was full of guests.
And here I was sitting on a sofa with a bloodstain covered with a blanket.
I still remember how many people asked me to join the ceremony but I didn’t move.
I had already read on google on how to remove blood stains.
I had decided the moment people leave the house I will clean it before anyone notices it.
My family was disappointed that I didn’t join the ceremony.
But I didn’t care.
The moment everyone left and the home become empty, firstly I changed my clothes and put them for a wash.
Next, I removed the blanket and threw it in the washing machine and cleaned the whole sofa completely.
After the whole thing, it felt like an achievement that nobody came to know and I could do this without any house cleaning professionals, but honestly, that is the ultimate nightmare ever.
